About This Plant

  • Plant: Philodendron hastatum 'Silver Sword' Variegated, sword-shaped silvery blue-green leaves with variegation.
  • Origin: Philodendron hastatum is native to Brazil. This is a cultivated variegated form.

Plant Care

  • Light: Bright, indirect light. Variegated forms need bright light to hold their color.
  • Water: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry.
  • Soil: A chunky, well-draining aroid mix (bark, perlite, coco coir).
  • Humidity: 50% or higher; more humidity means bigger leaves.
  • Temperature: 65–85°F. Protect from anything below 55°F.
  • Feeding: Diluted balanced fertilizer every 2–4 weeks in spring and summer.

Care

Every plant has its own needs: light, water, soil, humidity, temperature and feeding. Not sure? Ask us. We want your plant to thrive as much as you do.

When it arrives, keep it in bright, indirect light, hold off on repotting and fertilizing for 1–2 weeks and water only if the soil is dry. Full guide on our Keeping the Flame page.
