About This Plant
- Plant: Alocasia sp. Aurea Variegated, a heavily ruffled-leaf Alocasia with yellow (aurea) variegation, sold as 1 corm from the mother plant pictured, picked at random.
- Origin: The Alocasia genus is native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. The exact species has not been identified.
Plant Care
- Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun.
- Water: Keep the corm's medium lightly moist, never wet. Once rooted, water when the top inch is dry.
- Soil: Start in damp sphagnum moss or perlite. Move to a chunky aroid mix once roots and a leaf form.
- Humidity: 60% or higher. A clear container or prop box speeds sprouting.
- Temperature: 70–85°F. Warmth is key to waking the corm.
- Feeding: None until the first leaf opens, then diluted fertilizer every 2–4 weeks.
- Note: Corms can take several weeks to sprout. Be patient and don't let them rot.

Care
Every plant has its own needs: light, water, soil, humidity, temperature and feeding. Not sure? Ask us. We want your plant to thrive as much as you do.
When it arrives, keep it in bright, indirect light, hold off on repotting and fertilizing for 1–2 weeks and water only if the soil is dry. Full guide on our Keeping the Flame page.
